Funding for our Show Will reach Thousands

Reducing Stigma toward mental illness & Creating Awareness One Show at a Time!

Bipolar disease. It's a slow and silent killer. It compromises a sufferer's well being, relationships and in many cases, life itself. Often mistaken for the more serious "schizophrenia", it's the secret medical disorder that nobody wants to talk about. Those who want to know more don't know what questions to ask. Those who suffer from it rarely know how to respond to those that ask.

Over the past year we have been performing a powerful show, in 7 cities, that addresses the issue of bipolar disorder. We are committed in helping to reduce the stigma attached to mental illness and provide support and awareness for those in need. We have developed a performance piece that is successfully accomplishing these things every time we perform.

We would like to be able to present our show at Windsor's Historic Capitol Theatre for tour groups to attend on a regular basis as well as being able to bring the show to the many scholastic institutions in the Windsor/Essex County area. Ideally, because the show is minimalist in style and because touring it is so easy and economical, we would love to take it across Ontario and even Canada as bipolar disorder knows no boundaries and people everywhere are affected in some capacity.

Approximately half the suicides reported can be attributed to bipolar disorder. The statistics are staggering as well as alarming.

We would be very grateful for consideration for an opportunity to be an Aviva Community Fund recipient.
Sincerely, Michelle J. Mainwaring & Jason Gale, respectfully

Type 2 - A Tragic Comedy (a play about bipolar disorder) challenges every emotion!

TYPE 2
- A TRAGIC COMEDY

Can be seen in the 2009 Hamilton Fringe Festival

Details at www.type2bipolarshow.com

The role of Jasmine Platt in this masterfully written play Type 2 - A Tragic Comedy, by Jason Gale, is by far the most challenging role I have seen in a long time.
Every emotion is pulled on, portrayed, and experience from from the actor's and audience's perspective.
The two trickiest components to want to be able to master are the comedic elements and the very deep, dark emotional transformations. I feel privileged to be the first artist to have had this honour.

The role also requires a loving hand to hold the heart of the author in them...for this is the true beauty and the honesty of the performance by the actor. Knowing and understanding where the powerful words on the page came from will be the secret to an honest performance.

In the play we have a minimalist set so the show can travel very easily. As part of the meager set decoration is a plaque that reads "Dying is Easy....Comedy is Hard". It is so fitting for our show. I got it at an auction for Theatre Intrigue and Riverfront Theatre last year. It was such a fun evening. When the plaque went up for bidding we laughingly and competitively got the price up to $46...that was too high for me as my wallet was tapped out. I ended up buying a different plaque and convinced the bartender (who had outbid me on the one I wanted) that we should trade....and he kindly did! Good times and Good people!

Jason, the author of
Type 2 - A Tragic Comedy hopes to see this show touring internationally with many casts and being performed in many languages because of the tremendous awareness the show is creating about bipolar disorder. The show is also acting as a catalyst for healing, sharing, caring and understanding....it is a widly beautiful experience on our end.
